Summer Youth Explorations :: Schedule & Activities

Weekly Schedule

SUNDAY
9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Registration, Douglass Houghton Hall
5:00 p.m. Dinner, Douglass Houghton Hall Cafeteria
6:00 p.m.   Mandatory orientation meeting for commuters and live-in students
6:45 p.m.   Commuter "Get-to-know-you" meeting
7:00 - 10:00 p.m. Recreational activities
10:00 p.m.  "Get-to-know-you" meeting, on assigned floor with your counselor.
MONDAY - FRIDAY
9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Explorations (includes lunch break from 12:00-12:45)
FRIDAY
4:30 p.m. Checkout begins
SATURDAY
7:30 a.m. Breakfast
8:00 a.m. - Noon Checkout continues
Noon Program officially ends for the week

Typical Weekday Schedule

MORNINGS
7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Breakfast
9:00 a.m. - Noon Exploration Sessions
Noon - 12:45 p.m. Lunch
AFTERNOONS
1:15 - 4:30 p.m.   Exploration Sessions
4:30 - 6:00 p.m. Dinner
EVENINGS
6:00 - 10:00 p.m.   Recreational Activities / Study / Relaxation
10:00 p.m. On Assigned Floor
10:30 p.m.   In Room
11:00 p.m. Quiet Hours

Recreational Activities
SYP residence hall staff members conduct sightseeing and recreational excursions during evenings and weekends. Recreational rooms and lounges in the residence hall are equipped with a color TV, foosball, table tennis, board games and playing cards. You are invited to bring your own cassette tapes and CDs, as long as they are clearly labeled with your full name.

  • Movies (no charge for in-house movies;  discounted fee charged for off-campus theatres)
  • Racquetball (bring safety eyewear)
  • Roller Blading 
    (bring helmet, wrist guards, and knee pads)
  • Strawberry Picking
  • Swimming (MTU pool or local beaches)
  • Variety Show (bring an act, instrument, or idea)
  • Tennis (no fee outdoors; fee charged indoors)
  • Volleyball
  • Waterfall Tours
  • Waterfront Concerts
  • Weight Lifting
